Lantus is an artificial form of hormone (insulin) produced by the body. Insulin is a hormone that works by reducing glucose (sugar) levels in the blood. Insulin glargine is a long-acting insulin that starts working several hours after injection and continues to work evenly for 24 hours.

Lantus is used to improve blood sugar control in adults and children with diabetes mellitus.

Lantus is intended for use in adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes and in children at least 6 years old with type 1 diabetes.
