DES(1-3)IGF-1 is a single polypeptide chain containing 67 amino acids. IGF-1 Des1-3 is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques. It is a truncated variant of human IGF-1 with an N-terminal deletion of the Gly-Pro-Glu tripeptide, which likely results from post-translational cleavage of IGF-1. It is a natural endogenous protein. It is a truncated analogue of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). DES(1-3)IGF-1 is missing the first three amino acids at the N-terminus of IGF-1 (for a total of 67 amino acids, compared to 70 for IGF-1). As a result, it significantly reduced insulin-like growth factor-binding protein (IGFBP) binding and enhanced its potency (approximately 10-fold in vivo) compared to IGF-1.
